Types of Migraine Headache

Two Major Categories are:

Migraine with Aura: An aura appears typically before the onset of headache, although in some people headache may not happen after the aura. The symptoms are usually visual like flashing of lights, wavy lines, or losing your vision for shorter period of time. Migraine with Aura is also called as
“common migraine” or “episodic migraine”.

Migraine headache symptoms

Prodrome Symptoms:

 Signs which may occur 24 to 48 hours prior to a migraine episode:

·         Hyperactivity

·         Craving for certain food

·         Stiffness in body (especially in neck)

·         Constipation or diarrhoea

·         Feeling lethargic

Visual Symptoms of Migraine:

·         Blind spots (scotomas)

·         Zigzag lines

·         Shimmering spots

·         Loss of partial or complete vision

·         Eye flashes

Other Symptoms:

·         Numbness or tingling sensation on one side of your face

·         Slurring of speech or difficulty in speaking

·         Pain or weakness of muscles

Migraine without Aura: Aura serves as a warning sign, in case of migraine without aura you won’t any warning prior to the episode of migraine. Attacks without aura can last from few hours to few days. Even after the attack is over the symptoms may last for some days, which can be described as hung-over stage (often contributed by certain pain management medications).

The only major difference between migraine with aura & without aura is lack of visible symptoms. Migraine symptoms can be debilitating, and living with them can affect the daily routine activities of the individual.
